The natural world, the seaside and its changes in colour both above and below the surface is such a good source of inspiration for my work. I love the transparency of water in New Zealand, but also the mystery of the depth and darkness.
As much as I have enjoyed creating imagery that reminded me of the secretive plants and creatures in the water, I found that I was also attracted to the absence of imagery. I have always been drawn to colour-field work because the colour itself, without imagery, is evocative in itself.
In my work, I always return to the grey-blue-green and ochre tones. My wish is to create open-ended, visually seductive work, perhaps even inspire to quietness.
